Sharks
I have had a phobia of sharks for as long as I can remember. They fascinate me, but I'm scared of them and have dreams that they are trying to eat me.
One of my favorite movies is "Deep Blue Sea"
(Well, it was sort of was a problem when I was learning to water ski at moose lake and I felt a fish rub my leg - I freaked out b/c all I could think of was it was a shark coming for me...)
Now that I live by the ocean... I'm scared to go into the water b/c the sharks will eat me... and if isn't the shark - it'll be the sea lion or octopus... b/c both have been found off the shore here in
"Under the glassy surface a world of gliding monsters" - quote from the movie.
so.... how do I get over this life long phobia????
I need to get over it - and it needs to be soon
Our new mechanic here in Vancouver is a surfer dude and he has invited us to go sailing on the ocean in July.
I won't be able to go b/c I'll be too freaked out that the shark will come and eat the boat - like in the movie - deep blue sea....
HELP!

You meet the phobia head-on. Before you go out on the ocean in a very small boat, watch "Jaws" at least 3 times. You can then practice your screaming. If that doesn't destroy the shark's central nervous system, I don't know what will. In that case, you're snack food.
Funny you should say you are fascinated with sharks. I've heard they are also fascinated by humans. I wonder if they think some of us taste different than others. Hmm.
Well, I hope this helps.
Sharky
They will probably think you taste like chichen.
Yes, definitely a possibility, Mike, but do you think she would taste like a grain fed chicken, or just a plain old everyday garden variety scaredy-cat chicken? Hmm... I suppose that would just be a chicken chicken, in which case she's probably taste like those Kentucky-fried bones, but there is a difference, you know.
In any case, Susa The Great, have fun in the really small boat that could easily capsize if you're not extremely careful. It should be a nice day, though. Enjoy your time on the water.
The Prairie Shark
(Just to clarify the above anonymous note)
And since you will be a sailor-for-a-day (without the wooden leg because he lost it to a shark), you might want to consider a parrot for your shoulder. But be sure to give him lots of water. Don't want him to be parched, you know...
Thank you Mike - and all other anonymouses comments for your advice and great wisdom in helping me get over this life dibilitating phobia!
The best way to deal with your fears is to challenge them face to face.
Good luck in the shark tank.
As for me, I am deathly afraid of a steak and lobster dinner washed down with a pint of Keith's.
Ha Ha - I like this game. I'm deathly afraid of suntanning at a Mexico resort while sipping pina coladas...
well the other thing you could do is buy a pet shark for your fish tank and then maybe you would enjoy the sharks more. lol
